Developing as a
Professional Educator
Describe a professional goal you have for yourself beyond induction. Why have you identified this as a need or interest?
-
A professional goal I have is to continue learning and growing as an athletic director. During this past year, I had the opportunity to become the athletic director at e3 Civic High School. The experience has been amazing and has made me realize the impact any team sport can have on a young individual's educational experience. I believe exercise and working with a team toward a common goal are essential for today's youth. This will help shape the future of tomorrow into strong, resilient, and well-rounded individuals.
What actions will you take? How will you measure goal attainment?
-
I will continue working as an athletic director to build strong relationships with other schools and athletic programs. I will also collaborate with the community to apply what I learn in enhancing the sports program at e3 Civic High School. Goal attainment will be measured by increasing the number of sports offered to at least four per school year. Additionally, joining the athletic league associated with the San Diego School District will be another measure of goal attainment. Ensuring at least one junior varsity or varsity full roster per sport offered at e3 Civic High School will also be a benchmark for goal achievement.
What actions can you take to remain a connected educator throughout your career?
-
As I continue to learn and grow within this field, I acknowledge that many of my decisions as an educator are influenced by policy. I believe the true impact lies in comprehending and effecting necessary changes to policies that affect both educators and students. I aspire to become more involved in policy work and attend city council meetings to ensure that my voice is heard and to better understand the needs of community members. By gaining a deeper understanding of various perspectives, I aim to become a well-connected educator.
What can you do personally and professionally, to sustain the energy it takes to be passionate about students, teaching, and learning?
-
Personally, I can continue to focus on my health and wellness, seeking ways to sustain a level of positivity and enthusiasm for teaching and learning. I can remind myself to express gratitude for my career and personal life through conversations, writing, and discussions with others. Additionally, I can set a goal to exercise at least four times per week. Professionally, I can strive to surround myself with individuals who share excitement about education and the future.
What advice do you have for new teachers entering the profession?
-
Focus on one thing at a time, ensuring that your efforts are concentrated and effective. Remain consistent by committing to one school site and maintaining consistent practices. Additionally, prioritize enjoying and trusting the process, recognizing that growth and success often come from perseverance and patience.
